Wimbledon Embraces Video Review Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Players are granted the ability to contest specific decisions from the official, mirroring the practice currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This move arrives only a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to review specific decisions, such as:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.

Case in Point

A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at Wimbledon this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
